Is Langley in Hampton or Hampton Roads? (1 Answer)
Answered by Admin: Both.
Hampton is a city of about 138,000 people, home of Langely AFB, one of the oldest settlements of the English colonies.
Hampton Roads is a term for the cities making up the metro area around the mouth of the James River and Chesapeake Bay: Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Yorktown, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Poquoson, and Williamsburg (in no special order). Hampton Roads is home of about 1.7 million people.
It seems like there are a lot of bases around here. How many bases are in the Hampton Roads area?
Answered by Admin: Seven, mostly US Navy bases and stations, including two joint bases - Joint Base Langley-Eustis, NS Norfolk, NWS Yorktown, NAS Oceana, Portsmouth Naval Hospital, Norfolk Naval Shipyard, and JEB Little Creek-Fort Story.
There used to be nine, but the BRAC of 2005 combined four into two joint bases.
